There are only two main bets players can make – they are known as the player or banker bets.
The main objective of the game is for the cards to add up to a certain point total which is 9 in Baccarat. Because there are only two main bets players can make – they are known as the player or banker bets. (Please note: The names of these bets just so happen to be named after ‘players’ and ‘bankers’, but it doesn’t mean that only players can bet on the player hand, or that only dealers can bet on the banker hand).
Players try to predict whether the player or banker hand has the possibility of or is the closest to attaining a total of 9. Players do not have to bet on only one hand at a time – bets can be placed on both hands at the same time. A tie is caused when you’ve bet on both these hands and they both end up having the same total.
There are always three dealers involved in a round of Baccarat. Each serves a specific purpose. The first dealer will deal the cards. Once you’ve received your cards, you’ll need to make a move – bet that either or both hands will total 9, or pass the shoe containing the cards to the player.
When placing a bet, you’ll notice that there are marked out areas on the Baccarat table for where you can put your bet. It’s important for you to know that the banker hand generally has the most success, as the dealer always starts first and will place his/her bet on the banker hand. If you do a rough estimation, this means that the banker hand is bet on more often and will therefore have a better chance of reaching a point total of 9.
